Casa Waslala
About us
Belmalyn y Paul
Our paths became one
We are Belmalyn (Nicaragua) and Paul (the Netherlands).
Together we walked every path and every street. We came to know not only each other, but also ourselves.
After travelling the world and discovering wonderful places, we decided to settle in Belorado (Burgos, Spain). Here we chose to welcome people who, like us, travel from town to town and embrace every experience.
Casa Waslala
Founded in 2006
Casa Waslala is a 19th-century building just 3 minutes from Belorado’s Plaza Mayor, right on the Camino de Santiago. Since deciding to make it our home, we have cared for it, restored it and adapted it into a place where we can enjoy our days.
Origin of the name
The name de la casa tiene su origen en la novela «Waslala: La civilización perdida memorial del futuro» de la escritora y poetisa nicaragüense Gioconda Belli.
The novel follows Melisandra and Rafael on their long journey in search of Waslala, where they believe they will find Melisandra’s mother. Its themes echo experiences shared by many pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. Published in 1996, the novel has been translated into several languages.
Waslala is also the name of a municipality in Nicaragua that was deeply affected by the civil war of the 1980s.
